FOR A MOMENT, let’s imagine what it would be like to be fully alive without a physical shell or any of the stuff we need and desire for maintaining life on Earth. We’d have a mental energy that allowed us to move forward or backward, up or down, instantly creating whatever we desired. We’d be free to wallow in an exquisite existence without time or space as we know it. We’d be in a state of pure bliss, in love with everything and everyone. We’d have no duties or bills to tend to, no fear of losing anything, no one judging us, no possessions to insure, no demands on our time, and no goals to achieve.

spiritWhat we’re envisioning is actually the world of Spirit, which we experienced before we came here and will return to when we shed our body (or as William Butler Yeats poetically called it, our “tattered coat upon a stick”).

Inspiration is a state of being here now in this material world, while at the same time reconnecting to our spiritual origins. In order to be receptive to inspiration, we need to eliminate the ego clutter that accumulates all too easily for most of us—after all, if we’re preoccupied with events and activities that have nothing to do with inspiration, we’re unlikely to notice its summons. It seems like the more I make positive changes to my life the more I get called a hippie. Granted this is usually by friends and it might be in jest but nonetheless it points to an interesting phenomenon. The term hippie, as used today, seems to be a derogatory word, and even when it is used jokingly I think it reflects something important – that is, mainstream society’s indifference or perhaps even contempt for values that are not about doing whatever is normally done, whether or not it is good for you the individual, or the planet.

Yoga Outdoors: Embrace the Season

Spring is here!  Summer is coming quickly.  What a perfect time to start practicing yoga outdoors!

Practicing yoga outside can bring an added layer of experience to yoga, both physically and mentally. The physical senses pick up the motion of the wind, sounds, air, smells and temperature.  Outdoor environments can be particularly helpful when practicing breathing techniques and meditation.  A good practice when in nature is to focus on the sounds within you (your breath) and around you.  Birds, wind, and leaves in the trees are very soothing sounds that can immediately relax people who spend much of their time in noisy cities.  You’d be amazed at what a little sound in nature can do for your mind and spirit.

Some of these common locations make great spots to practice yoga, depending on the weather and the time of day.

Introduction to chakras and energy

Most of us, especially those who practise yoga or meditation, are familiar with terms such as ‘chakra’ or ‘energy’. ‘Chakra’ is a Sanskrit word which means ‘wheel’ or ‘spinning vortex’ of energy. The energy can be collected from several different sources and levels of vibrations, including colour, that are utilised in various parts of the body. Throughout our body we have main energy centers, represented by 7 major chakras, which are connected to the main vital organs or glands that affect other body parts.
The seven main chakra centers are aligned along our spinal column. If there are disturbances on any level, our body will be showing signs of inbalance, as each chakra is not only associated with our physical health, but also controls aspects connected to our emotional, mental and belief systems. In order for us to become fully self-realised and in harmony with our physical and spiritual nature our denser lower energies need to be harmonised with the lighter energies of the upper centers.

Changing your diet it’s just one, usually done first, aspect of your lifestyle switch. Once you stop eating meat and start giving your body food grown in natural (organic) way, your whole mentality is going to alter. You will start thinking clearly and will be able to deeply understand the surrounding world more. Some of it comes down to you paying more attention to your own needs and allocating more time for yourself, which is very often overlooked in our busy lives.The next step should be maintaining some level of physical activities. It ought to become a very important part of your daily routine, to ensure you remain healthy physically, mentally and spiritually.

My adventure with yoga

This will be the theme for my second website which is currently under development.

Once you start giving your body the nutrients it requires, you will heal yourself from any ‘junk-food’ cravings and your mind becomes so much clearer. You will be amazed with the results. This is when you are ready and able to understand how the ‘system’ works. You will be determined to make some further changes to your life, like learning to cook or grow your own vegetables and fruits. Some of those things would have seemed impossible to implement in the past, but the ‘new you’ will definitely be up for the challenge. At some point you may even decide to turn off your TV, it’s quite important to recognise what effects it has on our brains and health in general. Continue reading
